Lt. Governor Bill Bolling served from 2006 – 2014 under Governor Tim Kaine and Governor Bob McDonnell. Lt. Governor Bolling’s speech always emphasized the importance of education. He was the first member of his family to graduate from college.

The Governor of Virginia is always invited to speak at ALA VGS. Governor McAuliffe visited in 2013.

Toney Lineberry started to speak at ALA VGS in the 1980s and continued to come each year until 2014, the year before he passed away. Toney was paralyzed from the chest down after an automobile accident during his junior year in high school. He became a professor of law, an advocate for people with disabilities and traveled all over to emphasize the importance of automobile safety, especially wearing your seat belt.
